Member Agreement
1. Basic annual dues are $25 individual or $50 per family for artillery, dismounted, and civilian members, and $10 for cavalry members, due on enlistment and each January. This fee does NOT include $10 liability insurance required for participation in sanctioned events. This fee does include use of unit-owned equipment and weapons and purchase of large unit items not to include tents. I agree to maintain current membership for me and participating family members. Those with expired membership will not be allowed to use unit equipment or participate in spectator presentations or reenactments until paid.
2. Members are responsible for the costs of uniforms, leather goods, weapons, and personal encampment supplies including their own tents. After one season all required items should be obtained. Tents should be obtained by the end of 2 years. Some items will be provided temporarily by the unit as available but must be signed out and in at each activity. Expenses incurred for reenactment purposes are 100% tax deductible. Members are encouraged to solicit sponsors or seek donations for financial assistance if needed. Those with financial issues should discuss them with the unit commander so some arrangements can be made.
3. Black powder for the cannons will be provided by the unit at it's cost to all owners with cannons for the sole purpose of using it for unit attended events. If cannon owners abuse this rule powder will no longer be provided to them at any cost.
4. Dues only partially cover the costs of unit equipment and supplies and from time to time additional fees may be needed. I agree to participate in soliciting and/or promoting sponsors and in paying my share of these expenses as approved by the unit.
5. I also agree to participate in regular recruitment activities. These may include approved public events, speaking activities, or flyer distribution. Members are encouraged to bring guests/potential members to all activities but their participation is restricted to observation or camp activities.
6. I understand that primary roles in this activity involve the use of weapons, including black powder revolvers and artillery. If applying for a combat role, I certify that I am 16 or older. I agree to submit to weapons inspection on arrival for any event and agree not to use any weapon in violation of unit rules. I also understand that my unsafe use of weapons will result in my being banned from activities or dismissed from the unit.
7. I further understand by signing below that I am responsible for following all instructions and safety rules in weapons use in drills and reenactment activities. I agree not to engage in any activity not approved by the officers. Unit-owned weapons and equipment must be signed out and surrendered after each activity, no exception.
8. Whether personally owned or unit-owned, at no time will I allow spectators or minor members to handle weapons or come in contact with the cannon without supervision. I hereby release the unit and its members from any and all liability for personal injury or injury caused by me or to others.
9. I certify that I have disclosed any and all health conditions that might affect my participation in this activity. I further certify that I have read and agree to abide by the Bylaws of the Colorado Volunteers.
